This intensive 2-day workshop is designed to address the clinical management of lymphedema patients with wounds. Course Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to: - Describe the structures and function of the vascular, lymphatic and integumentary system - Recognize the phases of wound healing and apply knowledge to treatment choice - Understand the differences between acute and chronic wounds - Recognize the clinical signs and symptoms of wound infection - Properly identify wound characteristics consistent with integumentary dysfunction - Discuss the components of a thorough wound examination - Discuss wound intervention strategies for all type of wounds - Describe the tests and measurements utilized to develop an appropriate plan of care for patients with wounds - Understand the importance of proper nutrition and hydration for successful wound closure - Understand how to apply the components of CDT successfully and safely for patients with integumentary dysfunction - Identify the proper form of compression therapy to safely manage patients with wounds - Describe the appropriate modalities and adjunctive therapies to manage wounds - Select appropriate dressings for treatment depending on wound etiology and progress - Differentiate among different types of wound and their appropriate choice of treatment - Perform tests for clinical assessment of various wound types - Chose optimal treatment intervention for all types of wounds based in their etiologies | |
This course is 2-days in length (14 contact hours). The classroom hours are 8:00am – 4:30pm daily. There will be approximately one hour for lunch every day. | |
